Species: Red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

Family: Accipitridae

Age: Hatched in 2023

Sex: Male

Weight: 1050g (2.3 pounds)

Location Found: Found in South Dakota

Injury: Fractured right upper humerus that didn’t heal correctly. 2023

History: Miskogwan (meaning red feather in Ojibwe) was found along a roadside in South Dakota in 2023 as a juvenile. It was believed that he was there for at least a few days after being struck by a vehicle. By the time he was brought in to rehab his bones had set incorrectly which stops him from being fully able to fly. He was brought to Osprey Wilds in 2024.
